At People First NZ we run courses for people with learning disability. Our fundamental courses are about rights and speaking up - self advocacy. We are also developing courses about everyday life skills.

The courses are designed by and for people with learning disability and are available face-to-face and online. We have facilitators that are experienced in delivering training to people with learning disability. Each course has a People First NZ member as an assistant facilitator.

Learn with Us Ako i Tō Mātou Taha

We have an information and advice service for people with learning disability, their families and support people.

At People First NZ we are keen to see that people with learning disability and their family, whānau and support people get good information and advice about what's out there to help you live the lives you want.

Our Easy Read translation service is available for organisations who are committed to providing accessible information.

Easy Read uses clear language with images so that people with learning disability can understand it, make decisions about their lives, and be a valued and included part of their community.

At People First NZ, we use and promote Easy Read widely in our local groups, our Learn with Us courses and our Speaking Up education work. We also have an Easy Read translation service called Make it Easy Kia Māmā Mai.

Easy Read Pānui Māmā

Our members are experts in their own experiences and are on advisory groups and councils representing people with learning disability.

People First NZ members are sought after frequently to represent people with learning disability on advisory groups, boards and committees.

We have a large pool of members who are experts in their own experiences with experience of speaking up about many issues and being part of decision-making processes.

Speaking up about our rights

All our work focuses on encouraging people with learning disability to speak up about what matters in their lives.

To do this, we deliver a range of services that encourage a more inclusive society for people with learning disability, based on the rights of disabled people.

Our services are for people with learning disability, their family and whānau, and supporters, as well as organisations committed to hearing the voice of people with learning disability and ensuring their information is inclusive.
