Meet the National Committee that governs People First NZ.

Each of the 6 presidents from the regions forms the National Committee. The Committee also has two independent, non-voting advisors that provide advice as needed.

The National Committee meets at least 3 times a year to report on its work in the regions and nationally. The Committee also makes decisions about the work People First NZ does and its spending. The Committee also hears from member representatives on advisory boards.

The Committee sometimes invites guest speakers to meetings to stay connected with what is happening in government and the disability community.

Meet the nation-wide team working with members and people with learning disability.

People First NZ has a team of people working across the country. The team assists our members and people with learning disability to speak up about the things that matter to them.

The team includes our National Manager and the national office team, along with regional coordinators and team leads, and the local assistants and meeting assistants who work directly with our members.

We have 41 local groups throughout New Zealand.

Each member belongs to a local group. The local groups meet once a month and are the foundation of all the work we do at People First NZ.

The meetings are run by members, who interview and decide on their local group assistant, and decide what they want to do at the meetings, and attend local events in the community to promote People First NZ and their local group.

At the meetings, members learn about their rights and how to speak up for themselves. People from community groups are invited to meetings to find out more about what they do. Whatever is planned, the groups are a fun way to meet people and to make new friends.

Members have the opportunity to build their leadership skills.

All of our members at People First NZ regularly show their self-advocacy skills in the way they speak up at local group meetings.



They also have the opportunity to extend these skills and develop leadership and advocacy skills through collaborative learning and sharing their knowledge at regional meetings and leadership forums.

We are a disabled people's organisation that is governed by and for our members who are people with learning disability.

Our members belong to local groups where they learn about self-advocacy and have opportunities to speak up in their local communities, as well as at regional meetings, and through national networking like our Leadership Forums.
