Privacy Policy for Easy Read Hub

Easy Read Hub is an app made by People First Nga Tāngata Tuatahi and Make it Easy Kia Māmā Mai, in partnership with Springload Te Pipītanga.

This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean People First New Zealand Ngā Tāngata Tuatahi, who are responsible for the app.

What information we collect

Information you give us

The app does not ask you to create an account or give personal details. If you contact us by email or through a form, we will have the information you send us, such as your name and email address. We use it only to reply to you.

Push notifications

If you choose to turn on notifications, the app creates a device token. This is a random code that Apple or Google gives your device so we can send you notifications. It does not tell us who you are. We use it only to send you notifications about new Easy Read information. If you turn notifications off, we stop using the token.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic usage information, such as which documents are opened and how often, so we can see which topics are useful. This is not linked to your name.
  • Crash and performance reports, so we can find and fix problems. These can include your device model, operating system version and what the app was doing when the problem happened.

Downloaded documents

When you download an Easy Read document for offline use, it is saved on your device. We cannot see which documents you have saved. If you delete the app, these documents are removed from your device.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • run the app and show you Easy Read information
  • send notifications, if you have chosen them
  • fix problems and make the app better
  • reply when you contact us.

We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell it or rent it to anyone.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the people who help us run the app:

  • Springload Te Pipītanga, who build and look after the app
  • Apple and Google, who deliver push notifications and run the app stores

These providers can use the information only to provide their service to us. We may also share information if the law requires it.

Where information is kept

Some of our providers store information on servers outside New Zealand. When this happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure the information is protected in a way that is comparable to New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020.

How long we keep information

  • Device tokens are kept until you turn off notifications or stop using the app.
  • Emails you send us are kept for as long as we need them to assist you.

Keeping information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep the risk low.
