From National Chairperson David King’s speech:

“In 2015 the National Committee decided to make an award to thank an organisation for their commitment to making their information easy for people with learning disability to read and understand.

We will give this award out every year at the People First AGM. Last year we gave out the award for the first time.

At our National Committee meeting Communications Manager, Alexia Black showed us a list of which organisations have been coming to get their information put in Easy Read.

It was quite easy to see which organisations were doing the best, but still a little tricky to pick a winner.

This organisation has had 11 documents translated just this year.

They have shown that they are committed to putting their information into Easy Read.

We think they are a role model for other government departments to look at.

Having information you can understand means you know what you are doing and what you are talking about.

Knowledge gives you more power to understand things.

I am very proud to present the People First Make It Easy award for 2017 to the Ministry of Health.

Well done on your good work of leading the easy read charge.”
